Not far from Latakia are the relaxing resorts of Kassab and Slunfeh.

Kassab
At 800 meters above sea level, this village is much enjoyed by Syrians in the heat of the summer. Situated 65 Km from Latakia amid the beautiful forests of Jebel Aqra, Mount Cassius, it has many chalets and summerhouses where locals and families from Aleppo enjoy their summer in the cool breezy summer weather. It is also very close to the beaches of Ras Al Bassit. These beaches are sheltered by Cape Posidium, which was important in the Roman and Hellenistic periods.

Slunfeh
This is another resort set in the mountains at about 60 Km from Latakia. It is very appreciated by the locals, usually by people from the northern cities (as the Southerners have Bloudan and the Barada Valley) for its high 1200 meter altitude. However, it is still quite small and undeveloped and gets extremely crowded in mid summer.
